Benefits of Cocoa
Mars has been researching the benefits of chocolate, and more specifically the benefits of cocoa flavanols for more than 15 years.
Apart from its smooth texture and delicious taste, what makes chocolate good for you? Cocoa, the defining ingredient in chocolate, is rich in flavanols, which are natural compounds found in plant foods.
But, contrary to popular opinion, dark chocolate does not necessarily offer more benefits than milk chocolate or chocolate that contains less cocoa. Cocoa flavanols are largely destroyed in chocolate processing.
This is where Mars is leading the way with its research.
We have developed and patented the ‘CocoaPro’ process for the gentle handling of cocoa that retains the natural high flavanol content. Only Mars has the CocoaPro process.
At this stage only DOVE® chocolate is made using this special process which retains the flavanols, but Mars continues to drive and fund this research and is committed to making chocolate even better for you!
