Marketing Commitments
Over the years Mars has adopted guidelines and policies for our advertising and marketing activities, reviewing and updating them periodically to reflect consumer feedback, new technologies, and the latest thinking by advertising self-regulatory bodies.
The hallmark of our global marketing commitments is our industry-leading policy to not advertise our snack and other food products to children under the age of 12.
In Australia, we follow Mars Inc Marketing Code as well as being one of the first signatories to the Australian Marketing Initiative through the Australian Food and Grocery Council.
Our new 'Get Treatwise logos and nutrition panels on the front of packaging will help consumers make more informed choices.
Have you noticed the new labels on the front of some of the Mars products? They look like thumbnails, but we call them %DI. %DI stands for 'percentage daily intake'. This is a guide to help you make informed choices about the food you eat. Daily intakes are based on an average diet and can help you understand what's in your food and how it fits within a balanced diet.
Mars was one of the first companies in Australia to launch %DI labelling. Today, about 70 per cent of our products have %DI labelling.
Up front
In 2009 we will be moving the energy %DI information from the back of the pack to the front. This is to help consumers make informed choices when they’re in the supermarket or at the counter.
Reducing Saturated Fat
Over the last 18 months we have been hard at work in our lab, pilot plant and factory to look at ways of reducing saturated fat in our bars. Already we have reduced trans fats in all our products to less than one per cent.
A total saturated fat reduction of 30 per cent is planned for TWIX alone. By 2011 we anticipate a reduction of 186 tonnes of saturated fat across all of our bars.
Industry Groups and Associations
At Mars Snackfood we are committed to the Australian economy and consumers who purchase our products. To ensure that we are involved with industry decisions and public policy we are an active member of various industry groups. These include the Australian Food and Grocery Council, Australian Advertisers National Association.
